Over the course of the 20th century, the GDP per capitamore than tripled and the population almost quadrupled. One of the main levers of this increase in wealth and well-being has been business. However, this progress came at the cost of something that no one can ignore anymore and that puts the future of the planet in check: the massive extraction of non-renewable natural resources and the pollution and uncontrolled emission of greenhouse gases.
Today there is no doubt that the 21st century will be digital, but also that it will have to be sustainable. So consumers, legislators, and investors will increasingly push for companies to have sustainable business models and products. The managers who first realize the importance of this transition will be the leaders of the future.
